launched by the people at Billabong, who noted that many more girls and women were becoming interested in extreme sports and the surf lifestyle. Billabong was at the forefront of manufacturing surf clothing in 1999, 26 years after its launch in 1973 by Gordon and Rena Merchant. Therefore the company was well placed to conceive and launch a female range of clothing and accessories under the brand name Billabong Girl. Billabong Girl brings surfer style to women, specifically to those who had been involved in surfing and other extreme board sports and found themselves having to wear men’s boardshorts-now they had women’s boardshorts to choose from, cut specifically for the female shape.

Billabong Girl currently sponsors 25 female surfers worldwide. Billabong Girl is also involved putting on events for female surfers, including some stops on the ASP Tour:
